Psychological Thriller Film Conventions

What is a thriller?

A thriller is a genre of film in which the antagonist and protagonist are fighting it out due to some form of disruption or disturbance. The story is told through a series of bad events which build up to the climax at the end.

Common conventions of thrillers...
  • Fast paced editing 
  • Low key lighting 
  • Intense/ dramatic music 
  • Several different camera angles including close ups, establishing shots, high angle shots, low angle shots and long shots
  • Props include weapons and alcohol
  • Many different characters
