The first picture is of an alcohol bottle. We decided to use this as it is a common convention of thriller films. For example alcohol and alcohol bottles appear in many thriller films when the protagonist or any character is struggling to deal with their pain. The protagonist in The Girl On The Train is an alcoholic. She turned to alcohol as a coping mechanism when her husband left her for another women.
The second picture is of the detective board Stacey made to help solve the case of her best friends death. This helps the audience understand the trailer a bit more as it gives them more details about the death of Zac. For example, it shows the suspects, location and headlines associated with the death.
The third image is of a bunch of yellow roses. Stacey puts these flowers down on Zac's grave however at the end of the trailer it is seen that the flowers are removed from the grave and someone picking the petals off. We chose to use yellow roses as they connote a strong friendship, which is what Zac and Stacey had. Also, flowers are a common convention in thriller trailers and appear in films such as Unforgettable.
The fourth image is of the mug that smashes when Zac's mum drops it after finding out the news. The mug itself is not a convention of thriller films however, it being dropped and smashing is. For example in Before I Go To Sleep a glass is dropped and smashes on the floor. Also, it is in slow motion which helps add to the drama. The mug smash in our thriller will also be in slow motion nearer the start of the trailer to indicate the start of the drama.
The fifth picture is of numbers. These numbers are used by the police in the crime scene. They are used in all investigations. This shows the realism throughout our trailer as they are used in real situations similar to the one in our thriller trailer. The image to the right shows myself making the numbers.
