Props

These are the props that will appear throughout our thriller trailer.

The first picture is of an alcohol bottle. We decided to use this as it is a common convention of thriller films. For example alcohol and alcohol bottles appear in many thriller films when the protagonist or any character is struggling to deal with their pain. The protagonist in The Girl On The Train is an alcoholic. She turned to alcohol as a coping mechanism when her husband left her for another women.

The second picture is of the detective board Stacey made to help solve the case of her best friends death. This helps the audience understand the trailer a bit more as it gives them more details about the death of Zac. For example, it shows the suspects, location and headlines associated with the death.

The third image is of a bunch of yellow roses. Stacey puts these flowers down on Zac's grave however at the end of the trailer it is seen that the flowers are removed from the grave and someone picking the petals off. We chose to use yellow roses as they connote a strong friendship, which is what Zac and Stacey had. Also, flowers are a common convention in thriller trailers and appear in films such as Unforgettable.

The fourth image is of the mug that smashes when Zac's mum drops it after finding out the news. The mug itself is not a convention of thriller films however, it being dropped and smashing is. For example in Before I Go To Sleep a glass is dropped and smashes on the floor. Also, it is in slow motion which helps add to the drama. The mug smash in our thriller will also be in slow motion nearer the start of the trailer to indicate the start of the drama.

The fifth picture is of numbers. These numbers are used by the police in the crime scene. They are used in all investigations. This shows  the realism throughout our trailer as they are used in real situations similar to the one in our thriller trailer. The image to the right shows myself making the numbers.

This vlog shows myself Abbie and Niall preparing for the scene that we filmed in the graveyard. There are two different shots in our film trailer that are filmed in this setting. These are Stacey walking through the graveyard and Stacey putting the flowers down on Zac's grave.

Changes

Another change we have decided to make is removing the character Kimberly from the trailer. We think this is the best decision as it creates more mystery as to whether it was suicide or in fact murder. Kimberly, Zac's enemy would have been portrayed by myself however, due to me not appearing in our trailer, I am now able to focus all of my time and effort on the filming, editing and directing to ensure that it is up to the standard we desire.

Basic order of our Thriller Trailer

  1. Stacey and Zac laughing
  2. Zac gets a text
  3. Zac leaves Stacey to go into the toilets
  4. Door slams shut (fade to black) - police sirens in the background with police report over the top. This will be done in the form of a voice over
  5. Mrs Lane finds out and drops mug which smashes
  6. Detective Marshall- 'The case is closed, it's suicide'
  7. Stacey- 'You're wrong, I know it was murder!'
  8. Slow fade to black (gets more dramatic due to change in music- music will now be fast passed to connote chaos)
  • Stacey sat in the car drinking alcohol- turning on car lights and starting engine
  • Mrs Lane with her head in her hands (mid shot)
  • Fast paced editing of Zac's injuries and evidence in the toilets
  • Over the shoulder shot of Stacey trying to solve the case
  • Alcohol bottles smashing
  • Mid shot of Stacey waking up from a nightmare
  • Putting flowers down on grave
  • Stacey walking past the police station
  • Close up of Stacey running through a park- we will do this hand held and not on the tripod to make the audience feel more involved in the film and to suggest that someone could be chasing her
  • Someone picking the petals off the flowers (will appear at the end of the trailer to create more mystery as to what actually happened why Zac died)

Planning of further filming

The image underneath shows our plan of what shots we will be filming over the upcoming week. The plan was made on Abbie's phone with input from myself as to when we are all free to continue filming.
