Arranging filming

This is a screen shot of mine, Abbie's and Niall's Facebook chat arranging a day to film some more of our thriller film trailer. We arranged to get the props we needed for that particular scene eg the flowers and to bring in the filming equipment.

Changes

We have already come across something that we will have to change. Originally we wanted to call the secondary school that Zac, Stacey and Kimberly attend, Pennyville Secondary School and the town that they live in Pennyville, however, when we were filming the police station we realised that the sign said 'St Neots Police Station'. Therefore, we need to change the school name to St Neots Secondary School and keep the name of the town as St Neots.

Location ideas

These are some of our ideas about the locations that we will use in our film trailer. We have also thought about the actual locations that we will use to film. We decided on locations that are easily accessible at all times as myself, Abbie and Niall all have commitments that restrict our filming availability.

Film Titles- Bloodshed

The image below is of myself, Abbie and Niall making and editing our film title.

We decided to use the colours black, white and red as they stand out a lot. The colour black connotes death, fear and pain and the colour red is commonly associated with blood which will appear quite frequently in our film opening. The colour white contrasts with the black background making 'Bloodshed' stand out more. Also the colour white is very clinical and is commonly associated with hospitals. Hospitals frequently appear in thrillers, whether they are for psychological or physical reasons.

We chose this serif font as we wanted our title to look like it had been hand written and scribbly. Also, when we saw this font we initially thought that the random splatters looked like splatters of blood which fits in perfectly with our trailer as Zac is found in the toilets with his wrists slit.

The images below show the different options we had as to where we wanted the knife to be placed within the title.

The image below shows the finished film title. We decided to place the knife behind the word 'blood' as it stand out more than if the knife is behind the word 'shed' due to the colours contrasting.

Characters costumes

Zac Lane

Casual clothes such as ...
  • Jeans
  • T shirt
  • Trainers
  • Denim jacket
  • Baseball cap
The baseball cap will be significant when Stacy takes the case into her own hands as she will find the hat in a place other than the school toiles, which stems her suspicions that her best friends death was in fact murder, not suicide.

Stacey Jones

Like Zac, Stacey will also be wearing casual clothes due to it being a regular school day and typical teenage clothes. These include...
Outfit number 1-
  • A jumper or warm coat
  • A denim skirt and black tights
  • Trainers
Outfit number 2-
  • Blue jeans
  • Casual black top
  • Black trainers
  • Coat

Outfit number 3-
  • A high neck white top
  • Black denim jacket
  • Black jeans
  • Black trainers
She will have a small amount of makeup on including mascara and will wear her hair down to show her femininity.
She will be wearing black as black connotes fear suggesting she is scared that something could happen to her as well as her best friend.
Detective Marshall

Detective Marshall will be wearing smart clothes as the work she is in comes with a lot of power and authority. These clothes include...
  • Black trousers
  • A red top/shirt as red connotes strength
  • A black blazer or coat
  • Black heeled boots or shoes
  • Glasses

Like Stacey, Detective Marshall will have her hair down with some makeup on to connote femininity.

Mrs Lane
  • Blue skinny jeans as blue connotes calmness and tranquillity which is commonly associated with women and femininity
  • A jumper/top
  • Slippers
Mrs Lane will also be holding a mug of tea/coffee which she will drop and smash on the ground when Detective Marshall tells her the tragic news.

Kimberly

Kimberly will be in casual clothes however, will be a little more dressed up. For example, she will be wearing...
  • A black leather jacket
  • A top/jumper
  • Black jeans
  • Black leather converse (trainers)
Kimberly will be wearing black as it is a serious colour which will help the audience understand that Zac and Stacey are a little intimidated by the type of person Kimberly is. Also, the leather in the jacket and trainers will emphasise this as leather is commonly worn by intimidating and almost scary people such as bikers.

vlog- police station

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RAJ98e-uTQQ

This vlog shows myself, Abbie and Niall filming and preparing to film the scenes at the St Neots police station. We decided that only one shot outside the police station would fit our trailer best as it fits in with our story line more. We filmed this one shot several times though to make sure it was the best it could possibly be. For example, we changed the camera angle and also Stacey's actions during the shots.

Filming

The images below are of myself and Niall filming outside St Neots police station. Abbie is acting in this shot. We made sure we got permission from the police before we started filming to make sure we could use this shot in our thriller trailer. However, we were unable to film Abbie walking up to the door of the police station due security reasons.

Our target audience

Age

The age group that would be most interested in our film are people aged between 15 and 30. This is because our film contains graphic and some what disturbing footage which can be seen as unsuitable for people under the age of 15. Young adults will be interested in our film as it features excitement, intensity and drama, which are 3 elements that people of this age like watching. Another reason why they would be more interested in our film is because they are able to sympathise with the mother more as she has just found out that her son is dead. This is because they could be parents themselves, making our movie, No More, all the more relatable and intriguing.

Gender

We believe No More would appeal to males more than females as typically men are interested in watching films that contain exciting, thrilling and complex storylines; all elements that are featured throughout our trailer. However, women may also be very attracted to our film as 3 out of 4 of our characters are female. These are Stacey, Mrs Lane and Detective Marshall. This would therefore make our film more relatable to women

Ethnicity and Class

We think that all ethnicities would be attracted to our trailer however, white middle class people slightly more. This is because all of the characters that feature in No More are white and middle class. This would make them feel that out film is aimed more at them and more relatable to them making them the majority who watch it.

Production Company Logo

This is a screen shot of myself, Abbie and Niall making out production logo on Photoshop.

This is our final Production Company logo. This will appear at the start of out trailer. We would like this to gradually appear in the centre of the page and then split diagonally in half as it disappears.

Thriller Trailer Analysis- London To Brighton

London to Brighton trailer
  • Includes approximately 50 shots.
  • 1 minute 41 seconds.
  • Includes 6 different settings. These are a cafĂ©, toilets, a hotel suite, a train, the underground and the streets.
  • Sounds include fast pace non diegetic music, diegetic dialogue and a non diegetic gun shot.

This establishing shot at the beginning of the trailer gives the audience an insight as to what sort of film it is. As it is a shot of London it suggests that the film will involve gritty realism making it relatable to the audience, leaving them wanting to watch the whole film.

The establishing shot is then closely followed by this high angle shot. This shot connotes that the protagonist is weak and vulnerable as it makes her look small. Also, she is sitting on the floor outside which makes her look even more vulnerable.

This close up is of the two characters both smoking a cigarette. The protagonist is only a child, aged 12, which therefore is very unusual that she is smoking.

This shot of the review is conventional as it shows that the film is highly rated by popular
newspapers, magazines, etc. These reviews make the audience want to watch the film and see how it ends as it has been shown to be popular and a good film to watch.

These close up shot shows the protagonist meeting an older man, who will later use her for child sex exploitation. Also, he is wearing a black jacket. This colour connotes death and fear which suggests that the protagonist could be getting herself  into danger by doing business with him.

This close up shot shows the protagonist looking scared and unsure about what is to come. She is also wearing a red jumper and red lipstick, The colour red connotes danger, suggesting she is in some sort of trouble. This shot also contains low key lighting which is conventional in thrillers as it creates an intense dramatic atmosphere making the audience want to see the whole film.

This tracking mid shot from behind shows the two female characters being led into a hotel suite by an older man. The two female characters are portrayed as vulnerable as they are being led by a man in a suit. The suit connotes power and authority, furthering the suggestion that the protagonist and the other female character are weak.

These two close up shots show the protagonist and the other female character looking very worried about what is about to happen. The shot on the right shows the older man grabbing the protagonists arm. This connotes that he is being forceful which is conventional in thriller films.

This is a close up of the antagonist and his facial expression connotes that he is a very aggressive character. This close up, again, has very low key lighting which highlights the aggressiveness further.

This close up shows the female character crying and drinking alcohol. This exaggerates the fact that she is feeling scared and is dealing with her fear like a lot of people do; by getting drunk.

This shot is a high angle shot. These are conventional in thrillers as they are used to make the protagonist look weak. In this case, they want to make the female character look vulnerable as she is not in control of what is going on and is in a lot of danger.

The shot above is then closely followed by this fade to black. The fade to black is commonly used in thrillers as it connotes the ending and fading out of a life. Also, the colour black connotes death which is commonly associated with thriller films.

This over the shoulder shot of the female character looking in the mirror after the trouble has begun. This shot makes the audience feel included in the drama in the film which makes them all the more intrigued and therefore, wanting to watch the whole film.

These two shots are off centre close ups and extreme close ups. The fact that they are off centre creates a sense of mystery and confusion. The shot on the left shows the protagonist crying which connotes she is feeling very scared and/or in pain. The close up on the right shows that the character has a swollen, black eye indicating that she has been punched in the face. Crime and violence is a common convention in thrillers as they create drama.

This long shot of the antagonist connotes that he is powerful. This is because everyone else in the shot is located behind him connoting he has authority. As well as this, every other person in the shot is wearing black whereas the antagonist is wearing a blue shirt and a beige suite which makes him stand out.

This establishing shot is of a train. The two female characters are on there way to Brighton to try and escape the danger they are in. The mise en scene in this shot also help to identify the characters further. The setting looks very uncared for and abandoned, much like the protagonist.

This mid shot shows the antagonist holding a gun which is pointing at the two female characters. This is a common convention as guns connote violence and threat which appears in a lot of thriller films.

These two shots are the final shots in he London To Brighton film trailer. The titles really stand out due to the white writing contrasting with the black background. The black background is conventional as it connotes fear and mystery which is associated with the antagonist, whereas the colour white connotes purity and innocence which is associated with the protagonist.
