New Film Title- No More

Below show the different film titles we tried out for No More.

These two titles are the first titles that myself and Abbie put together. We liked the position of no more in the top image as it is off-centre. This connotes mystery as it suggests that something is slightly off or not right which is relatable to our film trailer. However, we agreed that the font and colour were not effective enough as they did not stand out.

In the bottom image we changed the colour of the word 'No' to red and left 'More' in white. We liked this as there is a clear contrast between the black background and the white and red writing which helps it stand out. Also the bold, sans serif front connotes seriousness and helps the writing stand out more. The font we used is called Franklin Gothic Heavy..

The image above shows our finished title. We liked this the best as it follows several conventions of thriller film titles. For example it is very similar in many ways to the Taken 2.

This image shows the Taken 2 film title. This is very similar to our title in many ways. One way in which it is similar is because they both use the same colours. The colours black and red are very intense colours and connote mystery which is why we decided to use them too. Another similarity is the writing. Both of the titles are in capital letters which makes them more dramatic and intense which helps them both to stand out. Also, the sans serif fonts connote a sense of seriousness which is relatable to both film trailers due to the story lines.

No More- First Draft and improvements

https://youtu.be/HGPKKZ8Ps3U

This is the first draft of our thriller film trailer. We have been given some good feedback from other pupils and teachers however, we have also had criticisms to ensure that our next draft and final trailer is the best is can possibly be. These criticisms are:
  • Re-film the first scene (Stacey and Zac laughing together). This is to include a wider variety of shots such as close ups and extreme close ups. This will emphasis the drama and create a sense of uncertainty.
  • Make the titles throughout our trailer more dramatic. For example to make the titles move slightly. These are common conventions in thriller trailers and appear in the films The Perfect Guy and Unforgettable. This will help keep up with the fast paced editing; which is another convention in thriller films.
  • Make some shots slightly blurred. This connotes mystery and confusion for the audience which also is how Stacey is feeling. This makes the audiences feel like they can relate to the trailer which will make them want to watch the entire film.

Changes

One large change we have decided to make is the name of our thriller. We have decided to change the name from Bloodshed to No More. We decided on this change as we all thought that Bloodshed sounded like the tile of a horror movie, not a psychological thriller. It also didn't really fit in with the story line of our trailer. We all agreed that we like the sound of No More as it is easily relatable to our trailer as Zac Lane is no more however, it still creates a sense of mystery as it doesn't give away any details about the death of Zac.

Bloodshed Script

vlog- filming at Abbie's house

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cIfyzhK947M

This vlog of myself and Abbie is during the filming of Stacey waking up from a nightmare. We also filmed Stacey dropping the vodka bottle.

vlog- Zacs death scene

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=esCY7Zv6QpA

This vlog shows the preparation for the scene in which Zac's body is found in the school toilets with blood everywhere. Before we filmed this scene I drove to Tesco so we could purchase some fake however, this was not available to us so we got some red pain instead. We took many different shots of Zac's body changing the angle and shot each time.

Props

These are the props that will appear throughout our thriller trailer.

The first picture is of an alcohol bottle. We decided to use this as it is a common convention of thriller films. For example alcohol and alcohol bottles appear in many thriller films when the protagonist or any character is struggling to deal with their pain. The protagonist in The Girl On The Train is an alcoholic. She turned to alcohol as a coping mechanism when her husband left her for another women.

The second picture is of the detective board Stacey made to help solve the case of her best friends death. This helps the audience understand the trailer a bit more as it gives them more details about the death of Zac. For example, it shows the suspects, location and headlines associated with the death.

The third image is of a bunch of yellow roses. Stacey puts these flowers down on Zac's grave however at the end of the trailer it is seen that the flowers are removed from the grave and someone picking the petals off. We chose to use yellow roses as they connote a strong friendship, which is what Zac and Stacey had. Also, flowers are a common convention in thriller trailers and appear in films such as Unforgettable.

The fourth image is of the mug that smashes when Zac's mum drops it after finding out the news. The mug itself is not a convention of thriller films however, it being dropped and smashing is. For example in Before I Go To Sleep a glass is dropped and smashes on the floor. Also, it is in slow motion which helps add to the drama. The mug smash in our thriller will also be in slow motion nearer the start of the trailer to indicate the start of the drama.

The fifth picture is of numbers. These numbers are used by the police in the crime scene. They are used in all investigations. This shows  the realism throughout our trailer as they are used in real situations similar to the one in our thriller trailer. The image to the right shows myself making the numbers.
